Personal Sketchbook
Record of studies, observations, & travels by hand.
Drawing is an exceedingly useful method for understanding the environment around oneself. Slowing down the normal pace of daily life or a packed travel itinerary, taking the time to draw allows for the absorbing and analysis of underlying concepts, orders, and assembly of natural and constructed form. These sketches can range from detailed renderings to quick impressional gestures as time, mood, or setting permit. Though I am very self-critical of my own work, it is enriching to look back through old drawings to recall memories, read notes, and progress. I strive to maintain an active and varied personal sketchbook in order to continue developing my drawing, analysis, and design skills. Most of my sketching is in pen which forces me to make decisions and planning prior to drawing any lines, but I find it important to explore other tools such as pencil, charcoal, or marker in order to push myself and create the best fit for the intended effect.
